  • Assist RCMP member when required to search prisoners (training provided)

Required Education, Qualifications and Experience

At a minimum, guards must meet the following educational and training qualifications prior to commencement of guard duties:

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English or French as appropriate
  • Valid level one First Aid Certificate c/w Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (must have upon hire)
  • Basic level computer skills an asset
  • Vision: Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eye glasses permitted)
  • Able to use both hands
  • Occasionally required to manipulate / lift up to 20 kg 
  • Able to bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistive devices
  • Bilingual Guards may be required for some communities
  • WHIMS is an asset

Required Training

Duty-specific guard training provided to successful candidates prior to commencement of guard duties
Refresher training provided to RCMP Guards in accordance with RCMP directives

  • Valid BC Driver’s license is an asset
  • Minimum 19 years of age, High School diploma, and good physical health
  • Fluency in French (verbal and written) is an asset
