Hours of work: 8 hour shifts depending on requirements. This position will include weekends, days, evenings, nights with flexible start and finish times.

Position supports the security operations in the Southern Interior and is identified with the express purpose of providing support to operations during the summer months by;  providing supervisory duties and responsibilities, including supporting functions at both fulltime and temporary static sites as directed; conducting security patrols and inspections, including site scenario training, post orders development and review; maintaining appropriate records; promoting Commissionaires health, safety, and security initiatives; contributing to the team in a way that enhances productivity and ensures a positive work environment.

Job Profile

PROPOSED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Liaise with clients with respect to operational requirements and expectations
2. Random patrols and inspections of sites (predominantly summer sites)
3. Develop and conduct site security training activities (scenario)
4. Prepare and amend post orders & operating procedures as required
5. Supply and deliver emergency supplies and equipment as required
6. Develop site maintenance records & reports
7. Acknowledge and respond to emergency site situations in a timely manner
8. Support Mobile Patrol Operations as required
9. Develop reports of observations and recommendations for enhanced site security, and provide appropriate follow-up activities
10. Provide 1st on-call duties and responsibilities as required, and
11. Providing honest, accurate and timely reports on incidents, both positive and negative to the Corps and to the client as applicable.

Required Education, Qualifications and Experience

CORE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES
1. 3-5 years supervision/management experience
2. Excellent detail orientation, organization, time management skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic operational environment
3. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
4. Ability to think quickly, have good judgement, and excellent problem solving skills, including operational flexibility
5. Patience and understanding
6. Proficient computer skills and abilities
7. Leadership qualities and abilities, along with previous supervisory experience
8. Previous experience with Commissionaires would be an asset.
9. Must hold Valid BC Security Licence

Job Overview

  • Monitor all prisoners to ensure their security and well being
  • Observe and check prisoners frequently and irregularly
  • Assist RCMP member when required to search prisoners (training provided)
  • Organize meals, record prisoner activity and maintain a prisoner activity logbook
  • Watch prisoners while in hospital when required
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of cells when vacated or arrange janitor assistance
  • Record and report any damages or repairs to cells
  • Conduct searches of cells prior to occupation and when cells are vacated
  • Maintain cellblock security (ensure cell doors are locked at all times)
  • Ensure cellblock keys are tagged and stored safely
  • Ensure all personal effects removed from prisoners are properly secured
  • Monitor fire safety and be fully conversant with fire orders
  • Handle and dispense laundry items
  • Under the supervision of the RCMP Officer, dispense approved prescription medications to persons in custody
  • Perform other duties particular to that station or detachment as outlined in the Unit

Job Profile

At a minimum, detention guards-RCMP must meet the following educational and training qualifications prior to commencement of guard duties:

Required Qualifications

Physical handling of prisoners is not a job requirement for Detention Guards.  Any movement of Prisoners will be conducted by the RCMP.  Guard duties are to monitor prisoners and to document prisoner movement/activities, as per RCMP policy guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English or French as appropriate
  • Valid level one First Aid Certificate c/w Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (must have upon hire)
  • Basic level computer skills an asset
  • Vision: Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eye glasses permitted)
  • Able to use both hands
  • Occasionally required to manipulate / lift up to 20 kg
  • Able to bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistive devices
  • Bilingual guards may be required for some communities
  • WHIMS is an assetRequired Training
  • Duty-specific guard training provided to successful candidates prior to commencement of guard duties

  • Valid level one First Aid Certificate c/w Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (must have upon hire)

  • Vision: Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eye glasses permitted);
  • Able to use both hands;
