Coldstream Monitors Parking

With the heat of summer upon us people are flocking to the water.
But between swimmers, boaters, kayakers and other water enthusiasts, the warm weather can also bring a host of parking problems.
In and around Kalamalka Lake, so far those problems have been minimal.
But to ensure smooth sailing throughout the summer, Coldstream has commissionaires on duty.
The commissionaires are hired by Coldstream to patrol parking lots on the weekends and hand out tickets to problem parkers.
"They're dealing with parking issues around the lake," said Michael Stamhuis, Coldstream's chief administrative officer.
And while the public does not have direct access to the commissionaires, there is now an avenue for residents to have issues addressed.
During the work week, parking issues can be addressed to the bylaw enforcement officer, by calling Coldstream at 250-545-5304.
On the weekends, the same number can be called, which will direct callers to a live answering service.
Residents can leave their complaints with the answering service, who will pass it on to the commissionaires.
For example, Stamhuis said: "If somebody's parked in an area that's dangerous and needs some fairly prompt service."
Considering there have already been a few problems with parking at the red gate on Kidston Road, the District of Coldstream is also looking at extending the contract for the commissionaires beyond the May long weekend and Labour Day.
