Commissionaires BC Awarded Three Year Contract to Supply Jail Guard Services to City of Kelowna

June 9, 2005, Vancouver, BC — Commissionaires BC will continue to supply the Kelowna RCMP Detachment lockup, managed by the City of Kelowna, with jail guard services for the next three years. The contract is worth $1.5 million and will continue to provide work for 16 commissionaires. The number of hours will be increased from 21,000 per year to 24,800 based on experience from the first two year contract.

Over the period of the three year contract awarded to Commissionaires BC, it is estimated that the City of Kelowna will save $391,950 compared to city employees performing the same duties. 60% of the total bill for these services is recovered from the province, and other jurisdictions.

“We are delighted to be selected once again by the City of Kelowna to serve the RCMP Detachment and to save the City money”, says Keith Smith, Southern Interior Regional Manager, Commissionaires BC. Commissionaires BC is working hard to promote its Enforcement Services across the province of BC and this is exactly the kind of enforcement contract Commissionaires perform exceptionally well.

“Commissionaires BC staff performed exceptionally well during the past two years. We were impressed and the guards earned the respect of the RCMP members. It is clear the right decision was made.” Says W. A. McKinnon, Superintendent, RCMP, OIC – Kelowna Detachment.
