Kelowna Mayor Salutes Commissionaires BC Praising Two Decades of Service During Presentation, Markin

October 4, 2005, Kelowna, BC -- Kelowna Mayor Walter Gray thanked Commissionaires BC for its contributions to the safety and quality of life in the City during a plaque presentation celebrating Kelowna’s centennial. In his remarks, Mayor Gray noted that Commissionaires BC’s performance over the past two decades, in one of Canada’s fastest growing cities, holds great promise for the future. “Considering the effective, reliable, professional and dedicated service that Commissionaires BC offers to the citizens of Kelowna,” said Mayor Gray, “I see an ever increasing role for their organization in our community in both the public and private sectors.”

Commissionaires BC began its service to the community nearly 20 years ago by performing security functions at Kelowna General Hospital, a relationship and contract that continues to this day. Over the years the City of Kelowna has engaged Commissionaires BC in a variety of capacities, one of which has been to provide security services at Kelowna International Airport, now Canada’s 10th busiest airport. Some 35 commissionaires work there today. The City has also engaged some 30 commissionaires to provide parking management services in the downtown area and awarded the organization the jail guard services contract. Commissionaires BC also provides a mobile response team to the community.

The reputation of the approximately 90 commissionaires on which the City now relies has led several private sector firms to call on the services of Commissionaires BC. More than 200 commissionaires are now providing various services to private sector clients, including the Kelowna Yacht Club, the Ramada Lodge Hotel, the Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre and H & R Transport.

Keith Smith, Senior Manager, Southern Interior, received Mayor Gray’s remarks with great enthusiasm, and added “Kelowna is truly a ‘Commissionaire’s City. It is an honour to be serving this community and we look forward to Kelowna’s next 100 years.”
