July 12, 2010, Kelowna, BC -- The large fire burning at a sawmill near Armstrong has forced the evacuation of nearly 100 residents. Last year local residents were appalled to see evacuated homes looted during fires. This year residents evacuated from their homes due to the mudslide near Oliver also faced looting.

Surrey Resident Receives Governor General Award

Commissionaire recognized for humanitarian aid mission in Sarajevo

April 26, 2010, Vancouver BC - Former member of the Canadian Forces, Carl Huggins, received the Governor General’s Commander-in-Chief's Unit Commendation on Friday, April 23, 2010, at a special awards ceremony held at the Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver. Mr. Huggins received the citation for the work he did as a soldier in July 1992, when he helped to reopen the besieged Sarajevo airport amidst Serbian sniper fire and shelling, in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the city and the surrounding area.

Commissionaires from across Canada travel to B.C. to meet unprecedented demand for security services
                              
February 2, 2010, Ottawa, ON – In the face of unprecedented demand for security services triggered by the 2010 games, more than 350 commissionaires are answering the call to support the largest security operation in Canadian history. Nearly 60 employees of Commissionaires, a leading provider of security services, travelled to British Columbia from more than 40 different communities across the country, including Summerside, PEI, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Melocheville, Québec, Haneytown, New Brunswick, London, Ontario, and Medicine Hat, Alberta. Under contract to the Department of National Defence, the visiting commissionaires are securing the compounds housing the Olympic security forces. The contract began last summer and commissionaires have been on duty for the last four months and will continue until after the games. They are living on-site.
