Commissionaires BC provides police clearances for the purposes of employment, visa applications and foreign travel / work permits. We provide police clearances, depending on your organization’s requirements, using either the applicant’s name and date of birth only, or using fingerprints. Police clearances, also referred to as criminal background checks, criminal records checks, police checks, police certificates or CPIC checks, are processed through the National Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) database, providing results in as fast as 48 hours. Applications must be completed in the presence of our Commissionaires ID staff, at one of our offices, or at your location with our mobile service. All applicants are welcome with no restrictions on place of residence.
Knowledgeable, friendly Commissionaires’ staff can assist applicants with the process and the necessary paperwork. All results are strictly confidential and are released directly back to the applicant unless the applicant signs a third party consent waiver. Results are obtained by providing the original receipt of payment.
How to get a Police Clearance (also referred to as Police Check, Police Certificate, CPIC, Criminal Background Check, or Criminal Records Check)
We want to make sure the experience of having a police clearance done with Commissionaires is a pleasant one. Our respectful and friendly staff members are the experts in providing police clearance services. To speed up the fingerprinting process, all applicants should have all the necessary materials in hand before visiting our office or before we visit yours.
Identification required
You must bring two pieces of valid government-issued identification and one must be a photo ID. The following are types of acceptable identification:
- Drivers Licence (issued by Canadian province or territory)
- Foreign Driver’s License
- Provincial Government issued identification card
- Birth Certificate
- Canadian Passport
- Foreign Passport
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Permanent Resident Card
- Certificate of Indian Status
- International Student Identity Card
- Immigration documents i.e. work or study permits
- Firearms Acquisition Certificate (FAC)
- Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB) Identification Card
- Federal, Provincial or Municipal Employee Identification Card
- Military Family Identification Card (MFID)
Notes:
- Health cards issued by Canadian province or territory) and Social Insurance Number (SIN) cards will not be accepted;
- All identification must be current and not expired;
- It is recommended you bring with you a letter or file number from the requesting source, if applicable.

Fees
$33 plus HST.

We accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or bank card. Accounts and monthly billing can also be set up for group processing.
Appointments
No appointments are necessary, though mobile appointments can be made for convenient and cost effective group processing.

We also offer Police Clearances through our convenient mobile service where our experts travel to your location to manage Police Clearances for groups.
Frequently Asked Questions about Police Clearances
How long does it take to fill in an application?
The process of filling in a police clearance application takes approximately 10 minutes. Applications must be completed in the presence of our Commissionaires ID staff, at one of our offices, or at your location with our mobile service.
How are results obtained and how long does it take?
The National Canadian Police Information Center faxes results to Commissionaires in as little as 48 hours after submission. Results can be obtained in person by the applicant by showing picture ID or they can be received by fax or sent to a third party if this is pre-arranged. The original copy of the results will be available about one week after submission.
