Occupational First Aid Level 1

OFA Level 1 Course Outline

Module 1: Priority Action Approach (to the end of the primary survey) for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of consciousness.

Module 2: Interventions for minor soft tissue injuries, including eye injuries, burns and workplace poisoning. Also addresses need for medical referral and required documentation (First Aid Record).

Module 3: Critical interventions of the airway with C-spine control for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of consciousness.

• Types of airway obstruction

  2. signs and symptoms of airway obstruction
  3. causes of airway obstruction

• Basic techniques of airway management
  1. manoeuvres to open the airway (critical interventions)

Module 4: Respiratory emergencies and critical interventions, including asthmatic conditions and anaphylactic shock.

Course Duration

Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA1) is a one-day course.

The OFA1 course can be delivered at your workplace or at the Commissionaires Learning & Development Centre location most convenient for your organization. Classes are offered at our Surrey Gateway facility and also at our Kelowna training facility. Our state-of-the-art Surrey campus is equipped with the very latest in classroom technology and teaching tools for interactive presentations and digital media. It is conveniently located in the Gateway Station Tower on the SkyTrain Expo line. Our Kelowna classroom is centrally located in the heart of Kelowna.
