David WalkerAs a 32 year veteran of the Vancouver Police Department, Dave Walker brings a unique ‘street level’ point of view to the trainer position at Commissionaires BC. Starting his career as a ‘beat cop’ his natural coaching and mentoring talent was quickly recognized and he began field training police recruits. In this role Dave’s ability to mentor new recruits, train them according to job specifications, and assess their capabilities, made him a natural for the position of Field Training Specialist.

While working for the Vancouver Police Department, Dave’s passion for teaching provided him with the opportunity to give back to the community and work with students as the School Liaison Officer. Dave had considered a career as a teacher before becoming a police officer and enjoyed being in the school environment, forging relationships with students and acting as a mentor.

While working for the Vancouver Police Department, Dave took the Field Trainer program at The Justice Institute of BC (JIBC). After graduation, he became the Simulations Coordinator where he was responsible for the content and implementation of simulations. Dave assisted in the use of force training simulations in both an organizational capacity, and also as an occasional participant. His inherent leadership ability and passion for training propelled Dave to the position of Senior Trainer for the Police Academy Field Trainers Course.

Through the network Dave gained through JIBC network, and in his role as a JIBC accredited Police Instructor, Dave was able to share best practices for security training, lending his expertise in coaching to other trainers from municipalities throughout BC.

Dave now lends his talents to Commissionaires BC as a Basic Security Training (BST) Instructor. Dave’s knowledge, strong leadership and great sense of humour create a positive learning environment for his students. His experience instils a sense of confidence in his students; his style of teaching is based on practical, real world knowledge, and he keeps his mindful of the inherent dangers of the job. And he never lets them forget the value of humour in diffusing a difficult situation.
