Commissionaires to Handle Security at Big White Ski Resort

January 11, 2005, Vancouver, BC — The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has handed security for the Big White Ski Resort to Commissionaires BC. The contract went into effect on November 1st and is initially for a one-year period. The contract will be monitored to ensure it fits with the needs of Big White. Before hiring Commissionaires, Big White Ski Resort security was handled privately and called upon the RCMP for emergency assistance. As the Resort grew, the private owners of Big White became concerned about liability and wanted increased security. A referendum on increased security was conducted and approved by taxpayers.

“We are very happy with our decision to hire Commissionaires BC to provide security services at Big White and we believe visitors will feel it is a safer place to be because of them”, says Larry Robinson, Chief Administration Officer, Regional District of Kootenay Boundary.

Utilizing all wheel drive patrol vehicles, Commissionaires will provide 24/7 security service to the entire Big White Ski Resort during ski season. This service may be reduced during the off-season to 16 hours per day. Big White will continue to employ security guards to patrol the building complex. When required, the Commissionaires will call on the RCMP. It is also expected that the RCMP will make unscheduled visits to the area to promote visitor safety. Commissionaires plan to work with the Big White security guards and the RCMP to create a joint presence.
